A blog dedicated to the dolphins in Florida, both wild and captive. I also blog at ExploreFloridaWaters.com, but I just need a extra little space all to itself to share about my number one favorite Florida water inhabitant, the dolphins and other cetaceans
Spotting Dolphins ~ Dolphin Dorsal Fins
The best way to spot wild dolphins is to look for their dorsal (top) fins slicing through the waves. From a distance, these fins may appear black, silhouetted against the water. Look for the shape of a fin kind of rolling above the surface. Likely, you'll also see some of the dolphin's back surface as well.
Watch out! A Pelican or cormorant slipping behind a wave can look a lot like a dolphin's dorsal fin!
