July 30(?), 2017: A Short-Finned Pilot Whale stranded near Spring Warrior Creek, but did not survive.
July 30, 2017: A Short-Finned Pilot Whale stranded near Rocky Creek. It was rescued, and I believe she was released.
July 29, 2017: A Short Finned Pilot Whale stranded near Hagens Cove Park, but died.
January 24, 2014: Flickr user "usnoaafisheriesgov" photographed several dead pilot whales on Kice Island
July 21, 2013: Flickr user "Jonathan Mays" captured photos of Short-Finned Pilot Whales over 100 miles offshore of New Smyrna Beach
September 1, 2012: A mass stranding of Short-Finned Pilot Whales took place. Three of the dolphins were rescued, but because they were very young and had not learned everything they neaded to know from their mothers, they were kept in captivity. They currently live at the SeaWorld Orlando Shamu Stadium, and their names are Ace, Ava, and Piper.
May 5, 2011: Flickr user "Jack Henry" photographed several stranded pilot whales on Cudjoe Key. I believe one of these were rescued, but because she was very young and had not learned everything she needed to know from her mother, she was kept in a zoological facility. "Fredi" currently lives at the SeaWorld Orlando Shamu Stadium, with other pilot whales Ace, Ava, and Piper, who were rescued from a beach in Pensacola Bay.
September 26, 1986: Two Short-Finned Pilot Whales stranded near Fort Myers Beach, but both died
August 8, 1986: Eight Short-Finned Pilot Whales stranded at Snipe Point in the Florida Keys, but all of them died.
January 18, 1985: Eight Short-Finned Pilot Whales stranded on Venice Beach. Sadly, all of the whales did not survive.
August 1, 1979: A Short-Finned Pilot Whale stranded in Clearwater, but did not survive.
